Tools and Materials
- 132 yd (121 m) size 5 yarn, Red Heart Hygge used in sample
- US size K (6.5mm) crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
- yarn needle
- scissors
Crochet Abbreviations (US terms)
- BLO – back loop only
- CH – chain
- HDC – half double crochet
- SC – single crochet
- SL ST(S) – slip stitch(es)
- st/sts – stitch(es)
- TS – tristan stitch
Special Stitches
Tristan Stitch Instructions: yarn over (yo) twice, insert hook, yo and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), yo and pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook), yo and pull through the 3 loops left on the hook, stitch complete.

Gauge and Finished Dimensions
- 11 sts by 9 rows = 4 in (10 cm)

Pattern Notes
- Turning chains do not count as stitches.
- Cowl is made by crocheting two identical panels, then seaming them together.
- Each panel is crocheted in long, turning rows. The panel is then rotated to work (again in turning rows) along the short edge.

1 Skein Hygge Cowl Crochet Pattern
The Pattern
Chain 40 (make 2)
Row 1: HDC in 2nd CH from the hook. HDC in each CH across. CH 1, turn. (39)
Row 2: SL ST in front horizontal bar in each st across until the last st. SL ST in both front and back loops only in last st. CH 2, turn. (39)
Row 3: TS in BLO in each st across until the last st. TS in both front and back loops in last st. CH 1, turn. (39)
Rows 4-13: Repeat rows 2-3. (39)
Row 14: Repeat row 2, but only CH 1 at end of row. (39)
Rotate work to work down the short edge of the piece.
Row 15: Work 20 SL STS along edge. CH 2, turn. (20)
Row 16: TS in BLO in each st across until the last st. TS in both front and back loops in last st. CH 1, turn. (20)
Row 17: SL ST in front horizontal bar in each st across until the last st. SL ST in both front and back loops only in last st. CH 2, turn. (20)
Rows 18-23: Repeat rows 16-17. (20)
Row 24: Repeat row 16. (20)
Cut yarn leaving a long tail for seaming, fasten off.
Finishing
Read Finishing section before seaming to fully understand how to seam the Knit Look Cowl.
Row 24 of the first panel will be seamed to the edge of rows 1-14 of the second panel.
Row 24 of the second panel will be seamed to the edge of rows 1-14 of the first panel.
Fold edges to be seamed like greater than and less than signs (<, >). Take care to ensure the ribbed side is on the inside.
Bring folded edges together to form a 4 layer stack.
Flatten the stack and seam using your preferred seaming method. Take care to sew through all 4 layers of fabric.
Repeat seaming process with other two edges.
Weave in ends, flip right side out, and enjoy!
