FREE Baby Cocoon Crochet Pattern

Hi Makers! Today I am sharing a baby cocoon crochet pattern. I designed this cocoon specifically for NICU preemies so it would be easy to put on and take off of baby, easy to open and close, and to have enough room for anything medical that may be attached to baby.  But most of all, I wanted it to appeal to all parents of all types of babies.

Lay rectangular cocoon panel flat, right side down.

Fold right edge in 1/3rd of the way.

Fold left edge over top so that it’s completely covering the bottom two layers. You should have 3 equal/even layers. See folding instructions below.

Maker Tip: Use stitch markers to hold the bottom edge together while seaming.

Attach a long length of yarn onto your yarn needle. Seam the bottom of the cocoon closed with your preferred seaming method.

Cut yarn and weave in all ends.

To create the ties, join main color yarn to right edge of top layer approx. 8 rows down and work a chain of 32.

Cut yarn and fasten off. Knot the end of the chain approx 3 times to secure. Feed end of yarn through knot and cut approx 1 inch from knot.

Maker Tip: Use a yarn needle to help knot and feed yarn through knot at the end of the ties.
