Hey there maker friends! I have a fun little whimsical baby blanket to share with you today!

The Sweet Stripey Dreams is a beautifully textured and reversible crochet baby blanket that is perfect for baby boys and girls!

The mini bean crochet stitch along with the rugby-inspired stripes makes this blanket a superbly unique and modern crochet baby blanket!

Tools and Materials

  • 5mm crochet hook
  • yarn needles
  • scissors
  • 2 skeins Caron Simply Soft (soft green pictured), and 1 skein Caron Simply Soft Party (snow sparkle pictured)

Abbreviations

  • ch – chain
  • st/sts – stitch(es)
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • mini bean st – see pattern notes for stitch instructions

Gauge and Finished Dimensions

  • 8 mini bean sts X 14 rows = 4 inches x 4 inches
  • 28 inches long X 24.5 inches wide

Pattern Notes

  • Mini Bean Stitch Instructions: insert hook, pull up a loop, yo, insert hook into the same st, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), yo and pull through all 4 loops, ch 1 to close stitch

Sweet Stripey Dreams – A Unique and Modern Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern

CH 100 with soft green color

Row 1: hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each st across, ch 2, turn (99) See Photo A

Photo A – This photo shows the end of Row 1 AFTER you turn your work.

The gray arrows indicate the ch 2 that is worked at the end of this row.

The green arrow indicates the last hdc stitch worked in Row 1. You will begin Row 2 by working into this hdc (green arrow).

Row 2: (ch-2 does not count as a st) mini bean stitch in the first st, *skip the next st, mini bean in the next st, repeat from * across, ch 1, turn (100 counting all mini beans and their ch-1 closures) See Photo B

Photo B – This photo shows the end of Row 2 BEFORE you turn your work.

The black arrow indicates the ch 1 that is worked at the end of this row.

The red arrow indicates the last mini bean stitch worked in this row. The white arrow indicates the ch 1 that is worked to “close” the mini bean stitch. You will begin Row 3 by working into the mini bean st (red arrow).

Row 3 – 15: (ch-1 does not count as a st) mini bean st in the first st, *skip the ch-1 that “closes” the mini bean, mini bean st in the next st, repeat from * across, ch 1, turn (100 counting all mini beans and their ch-1 closures) See Photo C

Photo C – At the end of working a mini bean row you will have what looks like 2 turning chain stitches. This is caused by working the ch 1 that “closes” up the mini bean and an additional ch 1.

Row 16: (ch-1 does not count as a st) In this row be sure to work the ch-1 closures loosely because you will crochet into them in the next row; mini bean st in the first st, *skip the ch-1 that “closes” the mini bean, mini bean st in the next st, repeat from * across, ch 1, turn (100 counting all mini beans and their ch-1 closures)

Row 17: (ch-1 does not count as a st) hdc in each mini bean and in each of their ch-1 closures across, ch 1, turn (99) See Photo D

Photo D – Work your first hdc into the mini bean stitch (not it’s ch-1 closure) as indicated by the pink arrow.

Row 18: change color to snow sparkle, (ch-1 does not count as a st) hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn (99)

***Rows 19 – 23 are a repeat of rows 2 – 6 in a different color***

Row 19 – 23: (ch-1 does not count as a st) mini bean st in the first st, *skip the next st, mini bean st, repeat from * across, ch 1, turn (100 counting all mini beans and their ch-1 closures)

Row 24: (ch-1 does not count as a st) In this row be sure to work the ch-1 closures loosely because you will crochet into them in the next row; mini bean st in the first st, *skip the next st, mini bean st, repeat from * across, ch 1, turn (100 counting all mini beans and their ch-1 closures)
